Promote reading fluency

Fluent reading is one of several components of reading competence, but it is particularly important. Not all children develop reading fluency without additional support. This book explains why this is the case and what can be done in German lessons to address it. In addition to presenting the theoretical and didactic foundations of reading aloud methods, effective and classroom-tested strategies focusing on "reading aloud tandems" for diagnosing and promoting reading fluency are introduced.

In the appendix, you will find numerous materials that can be used directly for diagnosis and promotion:

• Cloze texts for measuring reading speed
• Reading texts for creating reading aloud protocols, and
• Various templates for generating individual reading statistics.
