Prominente Vertriebene im Kreis Vechta nach 1945

75 years after the flight and expulsion of Germans from the former German eastern territories and the Sudetenland, students of history at the University of Vechta have embarked on a quest for traces by investigating the new beginnings of displaced persons in the Vechta district after World War II. This has resulted in 15 biographies of individuals from Silesia, East Prussia, and the Sudetenland, who emerged in local politics, the church, and culture of the Oldenburg Münsterland after 1945, advocating for the interests of refugees and displaced persons. The student publication project reveals their life stories within the tension between mourning the loss of their homeland and searching for a new home and identity. It does not shy away from addressing the proximity or distance of the presented women and men to National Socialism.
