Bill Palmer is unexpectedly promoted to head of the IT department of an auto parts manufacturer and now has to fight one disaster after another. At the same time, an important software project is underway and the auditors are also on site. It quickly becomes clear that "more work, more priorities, more discipline" does not help. The whole system simply doesn't work, and an ever faster downward spiral means that the company is on the verge of collapse.
