Pierre Carlet de Marivaux is considered one of the most important authors of the French Enlightenment. The 18th century was a time of upheaval, where tradition and the pursuit of modernity collided. Marivaux positions himself as a modern enlightener and weaves moralistic ideas into his works. He follows the art of entertaining instruction - prodesse et delectare. The aim of this study is to analyze and compare the two works "La Vie de Marianne" and "L'Indigent philosophe" in terms of their Enlightenment content.
