The volume presents the correspondence of Princess Wiltrud of Bavaria, later Duchess of Urach (1884-1975), with Karl May and his wife Klara. This correspondence spans from Princess Wiltrud's youth to her later years, covering more than half a century. In it, the princess, as one of the few female readers of Karl May, developed a deeper understanding of his later works. Her great ambition was to become a writer herself—a life plan she pursued with intensity and perseverance. Therefore, not only is the extensive correspondence between Princess Wiltrud and Karl and Klara May documented and commented on, but excerpts from the princess/duchess's literary work are also presented. This creates a fascinating portrait from her own accounts and diaries of a noblewoman navigating the epochs of the 20th century and the regions of Bavaria and Württemberg.
