For planning in internal logistics, the material flow represents the focal point when viewed holistically, as it connects the various trades and resources with their supply and disposal. This is ensured through the functions of transporting, handling, storing, picking, as well as controlling and informing. The objective of this book is to demonstrate to planners of material flow systems a systematic approach using different examples from various industries and to clarify the process of system planning. Unlike the work of an architect, who details plans already at the preliminary design stage, the material flow planner should make early decisions during the rough planning phase that reduce possible alternative solutions, thereby saving work, time, and costs. This is achieved through a systematic consideration of solutions even before the actual start of system planning. Due to the number of pages, the book cannot provide comprehensive answers to all planning, theoretical, and practical questions, but it offers practical approaches and presents appropriate solutions given the constraints.
