Insulin resistance (IR) is a pathological condition in which cells do not respond to the normal effects of the hormone insulin. The body produces insulin. When the body produces insulin under conditions of insulin resistance, the cells in the body become resistant to insulin and cannot utilize it effectively, leading to high blood sugar levels. The beta cells in the pancreas then increase their insulin production, contributing to elevated blood insulin levels. This often goes unnoticed and can contribute to the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes or latent autoimmune diabetes in adults. This study demonstrated the antihyperglycemic effect of Bridelia micrantha leaf extract on insulin and glucose levels in salt-induced insulin-resistant Wistar rats. The hypoglycemic effect of Bridelia micrantha showed a positive outcome on insulin levels, glucose levels, and HOMA (IR) values in salt-induced insulin-resistant Wistar rats.
