Children in the 2nd and 3rd grades often read (especially longer) words too slowly and imprecisely. This significantly complicates their ability to engage with age-appropriate texts. PotsBlitz has proven effective in addressing such issues through several evaluation studies. It is based on the latest findings in reading acquisition research and trains necessary visual segmentation strategies to break words into units. Over 18 practice units, basic reading is addressed from the following aspects: - Segmenting words into syllables - Teaching visual segmentation strategies for words and pseudowords - Practicing the visual syllable segmentation strategy through flashword training on the computer - Applying visual syllable segmentation and the strategy for reading compounds through repeated reading of short texts - Practicing syllable segmentation through games (e.g., syllable memory and dominoes) and word construction exercises. The accompanying CD-ROM contains the "Potsdam Flashword Program" for training the perception and processing of rapidly presented visual word stimuli. Contents: A binder with theoretical background, guidance for detailed reading diagnostics, 18 detailed training units including all necessary worksheets and texts, 1 magnetic board with red and black letter tiles, 1 story set (6 individually bound booklets), 1 CD with the PotsBlitz computer program for naming flashwords including a word list.
