Product details
The problem with this self-satisfied little country, my Aunt Emma said, is that nothing ever happens! Thus begins the present crime novel. However, it isn't long before a dead woman is recovered from a deep gorge. The story revolves around solving the crime of a young, vivacious woman. Who were the perpetrators - Whodunit? Young foreigners quickly become suspects. Central Switzerland, its changeable weather, the wild 1970s, and our attitudes and behaviors towards guest workers are all explored. Part of the plot takes place in a popular disco where loud hard rock music is played, featuring a one-way mirror. Other locations include an incredibly deep gorge, an abandoned castle ruin, a pre-Alpine lake where a water cleaning event takes place, a steaming slaughterhouse, the Centro Italiano in the main town, and a pub. The main characters include the mayor and his family, a prosecutor who wants to be elected to the Senate, players from an Italian football club, their spiritual coach, and the youthful narrator, a student at a monastery school and the mayor's son. The exciting and humorous story by English writer and painter Paul Townend, who ran a hotel in Central Switzerland, guides readers straightforwardly through the action-packed and varied events. Surprising twists, witty remarks, and snappy dialogues spice up the portrait of a Swiss crime.
