Product details

Annemarie Schwarzenbach (May 23, 1908 in Zurich; November 15, 1942 in Sils im Engadin) was a Swiss writer and journalist. She came from the wealthy Zurich industrial family of the Schwarzenbachs and was the granddaughter of General Ulrich Wille. She grew up in the lakeside community of Horgen on the impressive estate of Bocken and earned her doctorate with a thesis on the history of the Upper Engadin in the Middle Ages and the early modern period at the age of 23. Her first journalistic publications and literary works were created during her studies. Shortly after completing her studies, she made her debut with the novel "Friends Around Bernhard." In 1931, she spent more time in Berlin, where she was in close contact with Klaus and Erika Mann. This period also marked her first experiences with morphine.
