Product details

"Pole Poppenspäler" is one of Theodor Storm's best-known novellas, and many of the poet's personal memories were incorporated into this work, which was written for young people. It tells the story of the turner and mechanic Paul Paulsen, who falls in love with Lisei, the daughter of a puppeteer. His affection for the "travelling folk", for art and finally his improper marriage to Lisei earn him the nickname "Pole Poppenspäler". For his congenial illustration of Storm's novella, photographer Günter Pump travelled to the locations of the story, to Heiligenstadt in Thuringia and to Husum, where he shows the former Schützenhof, the market square with the old town hall, the Poppenspäler Museum and the Stormhaus.
