Pössneck

Pössneck, a small town in the Orlasenke region of eastern Thuringia, was considered the most important taxpayer in the Duchy of Sachsen-Meiningen at the end of the 19th century. Large cloth and leather factories shaped the landscape and testified to the city's wealth, as well as the diligence and ingenuity of its people. Much has changed since then. The clattering of looms and the smell of tanneries are no longer part of the city's rhythm of life.

The historical picture book provides insights into the period from the beginning of industrialization in the 19th century until around 1965. The 230 images, mostly from the city archive and partly provided by private individuals, show the streets, squares, and buildings as they once were. But it is not only these that make a city. It is the people who determine the quality of life. The authors aim to convey a sense of life and show people at work, in social life, and with their families. Thus, a fascinating glimpse into the everyday life of the citizens of Pössneck was created.
