Banale Stories
Summary:
Pedro Lenz is a storyteller of small worlds. A train station, a bus, a fairground—these are the places he takes us to. To people trying to cope with their unremarkable lives. To Liniger, who dreams of winning the lottery while having his morning snack in the barracks. To the young woman sitting on the ground under the awning of a bar on a Sunday evening, crying. To Greppehugo, who is determined not to become like his father, who washed the car every Saturday.
About the Author:
Pedro Lenz, born in 1965 in Langenthal, was a bricklayer for seven years, a youth worker for four years, and studied Spanish literature for several semesters at the University of Bern. He is a writer, columnist, and performer. In 2005, he published "The Little Lexicon of Provincial Literature." Lenz is a contributor to the "Morning Story" on Swiss Radio DRS and a member of the stage projects "Hohe Stirnen" and "Bern is Everywhere." He has received several awards, most recently the Literature Prize of the Canton of Bern for his literary work in 2007. Lenz lives in Bern.
"Actually, Pedro Lenz's texts are neither funny nor serious, but you can’t help but laugh; otherwise, the goosebumps that come over you while listening to these mini-dramas won’t go away," wrote Wolfgang Bortlik in 20 Minuten. Pedro Lenz's dialect works have previously appeared on the CDs "I wott nüt gseit ha" and "Angeri näh Ruschgift." Now, for the first time, these stories—where tragedy and comedy are so closely intertwined—are available in print.
