Author's Text
Plato, 427-347 BC, came from an aristocratic family and is considered one of the most significant Greek philosophers. He was profoundly influenced by his teacher Socrates. After Socrates' death, he traveled extensively, but his hopes of realizing his ideal state in Syracuse were thwarted. Upon his return, he founded his school of philosophy, the Academy, in Athens.

Blurb
Plato's Symposium is presented here in a new German translation based on the bilingual edition published in 2006. As one of the most important literary works of antiquity, it serves as Plato's introduction to his philosophical views as well as those of his time, making it accessible once again in a contemporary translation for all who do not possess knowledge of Greek, as part of the Universal Library.
