Anja Althaus, born on September 3, 1982, in Magdeburg, is a German handball player. She started playing handball at the age of eight in the youth team of SC Magdeburg and moved to the second division club HC Niederndodeleben at the age of 16. In 2000, the 1.77 m tall pivot accepted an offer from the Bundesliga club DJK/MJC Trier, where she played for six years. In 2003, she won the German Championship with the "Miezen" and was among the best pivots in the Bundesliga. For the 2007/08 season, she made another career leap by joining the Danish top club Viborg HK, where she signed a two-year contract. Anja Althaus is part of the German national team. She participated in the European Championships in 2004 and 2006 (5th and 4th place) as well as the World Championship in 2005 (6th place). She also competed in the 2008 Olympic Games, finishing in 11th place.
