Cellular automata offer a simple yet far-reaching method for the discrete modeling and simulation of complex phenomena. The fundamental idea is to simulate a large number of players, such as figures, particles, elements, animals, or similar entities, on a playing field, all of which behave according to exactly identical rules but only interact with a small number of players from their neighborhood. This book presents various models, for example from population dynamics, reaction kinetics, traffic engineering, or fluid mechanics, with each chapter being able to be studied independently based on interest. Furthermore, all examples are supplemented with numerous illustrations, making the models as easy to understand and reproduce as possible, even without prior knowledge.
