Julia Schoch has written the novel to commemorate the thirtieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Lydia, Alexander, Ruppert, Vivien, and their friends are students at an elite high school in East Germany. The fall of the Wall brings an end to the place where they grew up. They scatter across the world, but decades later, they reflect on their lives in light of fateful moments. Hopes, ideals, and various life plans make it clear: back then, they escaped, yet they are all still in pursuit of freedom.
