Product details
Jean-Henri Fabre, born in 1823 in Saint-Léons du Lévézou, was an entomologist and author. He initially worked as a teacher in Ajaccio and then as a physics professor in Avignon, before dedicating himself solely to the observation of insects starting in 1870 and working on his major work, the Souvenirs Entomologiques, the first volume of which was published in 1879. Fabre, whose work has been translated into many languages, is considered one of the key pioneers of behavioral research. He died in 1915 in Sérignan-du-Comtat, Vaucluse. Judith Schalansky, born in 1980 in Greifswald, studied art history and communication design and lives as a freelance writer and book designer in Berlin. Both her Atlas of Remote Islands and her Bildungsroman The Giraffe's Neck have been awarded the title of the most beautiful German book by the Stiftung Buchkunst. For her work An Inventory of Some Losses, she received the Wilhelm Raabe Prize in 2018. Since spring 2013, she has been publishing the series Naturkunden. Thomas Schestag, born in 1956 in Freiburg, is an author and translator as well as a professor in the German Department at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. His most recent publication with Matthes & Seitz Berlin is Reading Speaking Writing (Doodling).
