Due to the pressing relevance of traumatic disorders, engagement with Pierre Janet's work has increased in recent decades. Contemporary psychotraumatology traces its roots back to his contributions. Hypnotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapies, and body psychotherapy incorporate essential ideas from Janet. The authors focus on the rediscovery of the works of the French psychologist and psychotherapist from both psychodynamic and cognitivist perspectives. They address the central importance of Janet's psychology for today's psychotraumatology, as well as the integrative approach of his psychotherapy, which extends beyond the treatment of traumatic disorders. This leads to a deeper understanding of dissociative and post-traumatic disorders, as well as paranoid-hallucinatory psychoses – in terms of historical, theoretical, and psychotherapeutic aspects.
