Anke Baier-Loef, née Baier, was born on May 22, 1972, in Eisenach and is a former German speed skater. Anke Baier-Loef began her athletic career in track and field but switched to speed skating in 1985 at the urging of her later coach, Stephan Gneupel. She became the Junior World Champion in Calgary in 1991 and was awarded the title of Junior Athlete of the Year in the same year. Anke Baier-Loef has been married to Dutch speed skater Arie Loef since 1997.
