Phlebotomine Sandfliegen und Nagetierarten in Marokko

Phlebotomine sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) are insects found in warm regions of the world, including the Mediterranean, that transmit many infectious agents, particularly the parasites of the genus Leishmania. This pathogen causes cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis in humans and animals (dogs, rodents, etc.) and is endemic in Morocco, posing a significant public health issue. In this study, we present the results of spatial-temporal surveys of phlebotomine sand flies and the rodent reservoirs of Leishmania species in central Morocco, an endemic area for cutaneous leishmaniasis. The impacts of climate change on the distribution of leishmaniasis vectors and reservoir rodents in Morocco are also discussed.
