The title says it all: This original edition provides an easily understandable overview of the history of Western philosophy from the Pre-Socratics to the 20th century. The format is a synthesis of the history of philosophy and a lexicon, arranged chronologically. The originality of this book lies in the fact that, similar to our "Philosophy for Beginners" volumes, the most important philosophers are also presented with excerpts from primary texts. As shown particularly by the introductions to Kant written by Ralf Ludwig, his sometimes very casual language proves to be an effective means of engaging with philosophy without barriers.
