So far, there has only been a record or transcript of Hegel's various lectures on the philosophy of law from his students. Therefore, it has been difficult to assess the extent to which these accurately reflected Hegel's changing ideas about law and constitutional order. The newly surfaced and critically edited transcript by K. W. L. Heyse comes from the winter semester of 1822/23, for which there has previously only been the transcript by H. G. Hotho. Both complement each other and demonstrate that Hotho and Heyse closely followed Hegel's presentations and noted them in a condensed form. This provides a more reliable textual basis for Hegel's stance a few years after the Carlsbad Decrees than previously available.
