Product details

Lat. by the author: Cicero (Marcus Tullius Cicero, January 3, 106 BC Arpinum - December 7, 43 BC Caieta), lawyer, poet, and philosopher, came from the provinces and achieved a rapid political career in Rome due to his oratorical talent. He became consul 'suo anno' - at the earliest possible time for this office. His work is extensive and diverse: as a politician, he calls for defense against the Macedonian King Philip in the Philippics or ends the Catiline conspiracy through his speeches In Catalinam. For the latter, he was honored with the title Pater patriae. In works like De re publica and De officiis, he engages in political philosophy. Additionally, there are also defense speeches such as Pro Archia Poeta, in which he secures citizenship for the poet Archias through his courageous defense. Celebrated by some as the greatest orator of his time, he made numerous political enemies - his enmity with Antony ultimately cost him his life.
