Product details
The book and the exhibition Untold Stories at the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf - the first exhibition curated by Peter Lindbergh (1944-2019) himself - developed over the course of two years of preparation into projects close to the photographer's heart, which he only finalised shortly before his death. On display are photos from the early 1980s to the present day, which once again change the view of Lindbergh's extensive oeuvre and highlight his particular idea of fashion photography. We encounter famous Lindbergh shots, many previously unpublished images and commissioned work for magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, W, Interview, Rolling Stone and the Wall Street Journal.
Untold Stories is Lindbergh's most personal statement about his work. The photographer has always put people in the foreground, revolutionising the visual language of fashion photography. His photos turned supermodels not only into icons, but above all into women, pushing the boundaries between fashion photography and contemporary art. "The exhibition gave me the opportunity to think about my pictures in more detail and in a context other than fashion," says Lindbergh in conversation. He drew inspiration from dance theatre and film, in particular Fritz Lang's Metropolis, but also from the industrial wastelands of his home city of Duisburg. In Untold Stories, Lindbergh, as he puts it, has taken a completely new approach to his photos.
Night-time street scenes and dramatic settings demonstrate Lindbergh's inimitable talent as a storyteller. We also experience private, almost intimate moments with personalities who have had a close relationship with the photographer over many years: Nicole Kidman, Uma Thurman, Robin Wright, Jessica Chastain, Naomi Campbell, Charlotte Rampling and others. The whole film is rounded off by an in-depth conversation between Lindbergh and.
