Peter Liechti - Dedications

The Swiss filmmaker, director and author Peter Liechti (1951-2014) created a body of work of more than 20 films. Most of them are documentaries, music and experimental films. He was awarded the European Film Prize in 2009 for The Sound of Insects. Dedications, Liechti's last film, remained unfinished. His serious illness prompted him to shorten the project, originally planned as a trilogy, and to change its focus: He made his own dying the subject and began a dedication to life. This book is a self-contained part of a three-part multimedia project with which Liechti's partner Jolanda Gsponer, together with some of his collaborators, wants to preserve the unfinished Dedications for posterity and make them accessible. It combines Liechti's "hospital diary" written during his hospital stays with excerpts from his travel notes and 165 selected film stills. The enclosed DVD contains the 15-minute opening sequence of the film in rough cut. Peter Liechti's fragmented examination of his life and death has posthumously become a wonderful homage to the artist.
