Vom Sprechen der Instrumente

Starting from a compositional and conceptual historical approach, the author discusses compositional and aesthetic questions regarding the use of recitatives as design types in instrumental composition. Referring to numerous examples from the 17th century to the present, the diverse functions of instrumental recitatives within the context of different musical genres are examined and systematized. This establishes the foundation for evaluating an important topic related to compositional techniques and emotional connections, which has only been marginally discussed in musicology to this day.
