Mizoram

Mizoram, the land of the mountain people, is a small state in the far northeast of India. This book documents the eventful social and political history of the Mongoloid mountain tribe, the indigenous communitarian culture, the colonial intervention, the long-lasting secession war against the Indian central government, and the role of Christianity in modernization. The social and economic development of this remote mountainous region is extremely challenging. The external dependency on the supply of consumer goods, the still-practiced slash-and-burn agriculture, the patriarchally organized council of elders, and other hindering factors require innovative development policy measures. In addition to various approaches to decentralized and socially and environmentally sustainable development, an integrated rural vocational training project by voluntary development cooperation is presented, which is intended to make a contribution.
