Product details
Migration from Spain to Switzerland began in the 1960s primarily as guest worker migration. Later, Spaniards immigrated under entirely different circumstances. Using the example of immigrants who still live in Switzerland today, the author examines the perspectives of those affected as a complement to official definitions of the concept of integration as presented by politics and science. What do migrants understand by integration, and how do these definitions differ? To what extent do these definitions influence their daily lives? How do migrants assess their own integration, and how do they evaluate it? Based on numerous interviews, this study highlights different contexts for individual migrants. It attempts to address the specific situations of each migrant through a nuanced perspective.
