In his 1958 book Personal Knowledge, which has become a classic, Michael Polanyi focuses on the personal elements of scientific knowledge processes - on experience and prior knowledge, skill and ability. With this intervention, he illuminates the blind spot of a scientific logic based on the ideal of objectivity, namely the embodied, socialised researcher himself. Conceptualised as "personal" and subsequently as "implicit knowledge", his epistemological approach has become one of the most important articles in contemporary science studies.
