On the 1st Advent of 2018, the new order of liturgical texts and songs comes into effect after extensive preparations. It is a moderate revision of the previous order, which was introduced exactly 40 years ago. The new order preserves the centuries-old tradition of liturgical readings, especially the Gospel readings for Sundays and feast days. It also continues to include sermon texts in six cycles. Three changes will be particularly noticeable: the number of sermon texts from the Old Testament has nearly doubled and now makes up one third; in the individual sermon cycles, Gospel, Epistle, and Old Testament texts now alternate week by week; and each Sunday and feast day now has two songs for the week or day, including many more new songs than before. The new order will be implemented in worship services starting with the church year 2018/2019 through three publications.
