Penguin Wir waren Wunder
GermanProduct details
Maria Anna Mozart: the gifted sister - forgotten by history. Leopold Mozart never achieved much as a musician himself. He does everything he can to market his talented children, Wolfgang Amadeus and Mariann, as child prodigies throughout Europe. Mariann, often simply called "Nannerl," is celebrated as a piano virtuoso in the music metropolises of Vienna, Paris, and London by the age of barely fourteen. Yet her own father, driven by ambition and delusions of grandeur, increasingly pushes her to the sidelines. Ultimately, Leopold Mozart ruthlessly abandons his daughter and ends Mariann's promising career to focus entirely on Wolfgang. "We Were Wonders" tells the story of a complicated and tragic father-daughter relationship in a time when the world was not yet ready to grant female artists independent fame. It also explores how a young woman can manage to break free from the dependency of an overpowering, narcissistic father to find her own freedom, even if it means sacrificing her great dream.
