Individuals who become ill or require care face learning tasks that must be addressed through needs-oriented and targeted information, education, and counseling. The handbook for nursing professionals on patient education for clients and families:

• describes patient education regarding its tasks, developments, roles, and target groups
• clarifies concepts of patient education from empowerment to health literacy, resource orientation, self-management and self-efficacy, social support, and subjective health and illness theories and progression models
