The Bernese architectural firm A. Furrer und Partner has distinguished itself over its 40 years of successful construction activity through consistently high quality standards, an unpretentious and timeless architectural language, and the careful application of available technical and construction possibilities. The variety of completed construction tasks is vast: from the redesign of the historic Bärengraben into a contemporary animal enclosure to renovations of private homes and university buildings, as well as new constructions like that for Medienhaus Stämpfli AG. The consideration of functional relationships and local conditions, as well as their interpretation, has always been at the forefront of architectural engagement. In renovations, the original structure has also been a central source for project development. This monograph comprehensively presents 16 completed projects in Bern and its surroundings through photographs, drawings, and plans, reflecting both the conditions of their respective times and designs based on timeless criteria. The volume is rounded off by an essay from art and architectural historian Michael Hanak.
