Ralf von Appen is Professor of Theory and History of Popular Music at the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He studied musicology, philosophy and psychology at Justus Liebig University Giessen, where he received his doctorate in 2007, specialising in aesthetics and evaluation, history and methods of analysing popular music.Sarah Chaker is an assistant professor at the Department of Music Sociology at the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In her dissertation at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg, she researched how black and death metal fans in Germany deal with their music. Her research interests include the field of street music, popular music (especially metal) and music education. In 2023, she was awarded the Austrian State Prize "Ars Docendi" for excellent teaching.Michael Huber is Professor of Music Sociology at the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. His research focuses on music reception in the digital mediamorphosis, structures of musical life in Austria and musical socialisation.Sean Prieske is a research employee at the UNESCO Chair on Transcultural Music Studies at the Franz Liszt University of Music Weimar. He runs the musicological podcast "Musikgespräch".
