Product details

Author Information: Although the three hundred fables in this collection are attributed to Aesop and his name is synonymous with this form, it seems unlikely that he was actually more than a legendary figure. While some historical accounts claim he was a slave with an extraordinary talent for storytelling who lived in the sixth century BC, many believe it is improbable that this entire body of fables can be attributed to a single person. What seems clear, however, is that the fables began their life as oral stories long before they were recorded in writing.

This timeless collection brings together three hundred of Aesop's most enduringly popular fables in a volume that will delight both young and old readers. Here are all the timeless favorites: the cunning fox, the vain peacock, the thieving cat, and the steadfast turtle, all vividly lovable.
