Translator's Foreword: Modern vertebrate paleontology is a fascinating, interdisciplinary field of biological and geosciences that has rapidly developed in recent years. Through field research around the world, new and exciting fossils are constantly being discovered, which enhance our understanding of vertebrate evolution and add new aspects. Due to the complexity of a vertebrate skeleton, vertebrate fossils provide a wealth of biological information. This allows for a very detailed analysis of phylogenesis in vertebrates. At the same time, numerous insights into the lifestyles of the organisms in question can also be gained. Consequently, the analysis of the evolution of individual species with their various adaptations has become an important research focus in vertebrate paleontology alongside phylogenetic systematics.
