Gum and periodontal diseases pose a significant problem in both dentistry and medicine. Most factors and causes contributing to the development of these diseases can be reduced or treated with ozone in all its forms (gas, water, oil). Due to the positive biological effects of ozone, its antimicrobial activity, the oxidation of biomolecule precursors, and microbial toxins that play a role in periodontal diseases, as well as its healing and tissue regeneration properties, the use of ozone is indicated at all stages of gum and periodontal diseases. The aim is to provide a general overview of the clinical applications of ozone in periodontology and to summarize the in-vitro and in-vivo studies in periodontology where ozone has been used. This is significant for future researchers to understand what has already been tested and what opportunities exist for the clinical application of ozone in periodontology.
