The transition into the second half of life is marked by challenges, but also full of opportunities. We all wish for the aging process to be self-determined, exciting, and fulfilling. Prof. Dr. Pasqualina Perrig-Chiello has been researching for decades as a lifespan psychologist what this depends on. She demonstrates the possibilities and strengths found in challenges and changes such as existential crises, children moving out, or personal and partnership reorientation. All of this calls our identity into question, and we must reinvent ourselves. Character strengths like independence, curiosity, a desire for change, as well as self-awareness, education, and social engagement help us in this process.
