Otto Wolf (1900–1972) sought inspiration for his writing in nature. He captured sounds, smells, impressions, and his feelings in a small notebook. At home at his desk, he simply couldn't come up with anything, he said. On forest paths and mountain roads – especially around Balmberg – he could escape the world while hiking and weave himself into his imagination. Wolf was a great storyteller, a dialect poet, and a popular writer, with a body of work characterized by deep piety, drama, and vivid density.
