Otto Föllinger

The textbook founded by Otto Föllinger was first published in 1972 and has become a standard work in control engineering. Its goal is to familiarize the reader with the terminology and methodology of control engineering as well as its applications, which it achieves through a systematic structure, good readability, and practical relevance. While mathematical rigor is not emphasized, the motivation behind concepts and procedures is made clear, allowing the reasoning to be easily followed and remaining as illustrative as possible. Numerous realistic examples confirm the effectiveness of the theoretical methods. Starting with a clear description of the systems through structural diagrams, the classical analysis and synthesis methods in the frequency domain are addressed. This is followed by a detailed presentation of time-domain methodology (state description), which includes several methods for designing state controllers and order reduction. This classic textbook has been further developed by four of Otto Föllinger's students and adapted to more recent developments. They present another update of this systematic, application-oriented, and exceptionally illustrative textbook.
