OTIPM Occupational Therapy Intervention Process Model

Respecting and appreciating the client's perspective and goals, and not taking away their dreams, is the primary aim of our occupational therapy intervention. Both perspectives are important: that of the insider, the client, and that of the outsiders, us occupational therapists, who observe the engagement in activities. According to the current paradigm, our practical work - the occupational therapy intervention - is focused on engagement in everyday contexts. If our focus lies there, we must ensure that engagement is not only the outcome (goal) but also the emphasis of our evaluation, intervention, and documentation. The Occupational Therapy Intervention Process Model (OTIPM) helps us internalize this perspective. The book clearly presents, with numerous illustrations, tables, and key points, which types of interventions (restitutive, acquisitional, and adaptive engagements) we should primarily use, the principles underlying our occupational therapy interventions, the targeted actions we can observe during an engagement, such as motor and process skills as well as social interaction skills, their ICF codes, and how we can implement the OTIPM: Two case studies illustrate the concrete application. A comprehensive list of literature and a glossary of some translated terms complement this book.
