Ost-West-Konflikte

There is still a lot of talk about East and West in the German public sphere more than three decades after the establishment of state unity. This persistence of the discourse alone would be reason enough to systematically analyse it from the perspective of linguistic social research, something that has not been done to date. The elimination of this far-reaching desideratum is even more urgent in view of the global discourse conditions that have changed dramatically since the Russian attack on Ukraine: East-West conflicts and their discursive construction increasingly characterise the way we talk about Germany and the world. This volume is based on a conference with the same title and expands the examination of the East-West discourse in Germany not only to include this global perspective, but also an interdisciplinary one: social science analyses complement the linguistic examination of the question of why, how and what we are still talking about.
