Product details
This is the taste of the Münsterland. The cuisine of the Münsterland is simple, honest, down-to-earth, and hearty without nonsense or frivolity. Its foundations are the regional fruits and vegetables, meat from animals grazing in the fields or from the barn, fish from the streams and lakes, chickens and eggs from the coop, and game from local hunting. The highlight and export hit of the Münsterland is the ham, either smoked or air-dried, which is simply incomparable in flavor.
Cycling on the paths or Leezenpad, horseback riding, hunting, and hiking are the favorite leisure activities of the people from Münsterland as well as their visitors from the nearby Ruhr area and neighboring Holland. There are plenty of attractive places to stop for a meal in inns, farm cafés, or castle gardens, where you can enjoy delicious homemade cakes and hearty farmer's sandwiches with the exquisite Münsterland ham or Mettwurst in the summer under shady trees and in the winter cozily by the fireplace on the barn floor, which still taste like childhood.
Although children have long been discouraged from speaking Münsterländer Platt in school, this dialect is still very present in daily life and, like all dialects, is experiencing a sort of renaissance. The sayings and wisdom of the Münsterlanders are also passed down in the local dialect. They are relatable and reflect the dry humor of the residents so well that some can even be found in the recipes in this book.
