Opus Magnum

The Franz Marc Museum in Kochel is preparing a solo exhibition of Anselm Kiefer, featuring 23 glass display cases showcasing Kiefer's work. The cases bear poetic titles such as Hortus conclusus, Athanor, Daphne, Poppy and Memory, Falling Stars, or The Diaries of the Kings of Judah. Within these leaded glass containers, Kiefer has arranged objects and materials into still lifes that serve as time capsules, presenting the various thematic realms of the artist. The display cases are both transparent and opaque, light and heavy, encompassing a rich ensemble of windows that create a concert of things, images, and meanings. Various writers - Patrizia Görg, Marion Poschmann, Michael Krüger, Christoph Ransmayr, Wolf Singer, and Ferdinand von Schirach - provide their interpretations of this opus magnum in texts specially written for the volume.
