Optische Gliederung von Komposita in Leichter Sprache

A key feature of the German language is its propensity for composition. However, complex words can be problematic for people with reading difficulties. Therefore, in easy language, they are visually segmented. But do the currently popular segmentation options really contribute to a better understanding of the words? Silvana Deilen compares the various segmentation methods using eye movement studies. In addition to the phases of cognitive processing measured by eye tracking, she also considers the different reading competencies and cognitive abilities of the readers. The relationships deciphered in this way are illustrated in a new model. This model can be used, among other things, to explain the different reading behaviors of individuals with stronger and weaker reading abilities. New approaches and impulses for the further development of reduction varieties such as easy and simple language round off the volume.
