Product details
Currently, medium-sized companies primarily view financing through debt capital as a mere means of raising capital, intended solely to facilitate planned investments. The new framework conditions of Basel II necessitate a simultaneous optimization of financing and investment. By optimally structuring the capital, managing collateral for external financing, and designing the investment program with respect to their credit assessment, borrowers can influence their cost of credit.
Based on the description of the new regulations of Basel II and the presentation of rating procedures, Jens Steinbrügge analyzes models that help determine an optimal allocation of existing collateral to existing liabilities and derive an investment and financing program aimed at maximizing the company's value. However, the results clearly indicate that despite the reduction of debt capital costs through a better rating, maximizing the credit assessment does not necessarily lead to a simultaneous maximization of the company's value.
