A precious painting is stolen from a church in the Val Lumnezia. It is enormous and actually doesn't fit through the church door at all. How did the thieves manage to get the painting of the Battle of Lepanto out of the church? Who is behind this clever theft?

The police suspect the Gadola family, who are spending their vacation in Lumnezia and had visited the church shortly before. In particular, the mother, a recognized art expert, comes under police scrutiny. The children Laina, Laura, and Linus decide to solve the case. Even though the three of them are not particularly interested in the culture of the valley, it is precisely this that leads the siblings to the culprits.

The shape of a church tower, a well-known counting rhyme, and the example of the "Valerusas" - the brave Lugnez fighters - help the children catch the thieves. However, the most important clue about the culprits comes from a crazy old organ player, with whom the siblings consume mountains of omelets.

Claudia Cadruvi published the children's and youth mystery a few years ago in Rumantsch Grischun. Lisa Pfeiffer has now translated the book into German. The illustrations, as in the Romanesque version, are by the Ilanz artist Yvonne Gienal.
