Accidents, balloon rides, and street scenes: The Olten photographer Walter Borer (1913–2003) documented spectacular and everyday life around Olten from the 1930s to the 1960s. This period is marked by the crises of the interwar years, the war years, and the subsequent recovery after 1945. Walter Borer's photographs make this development visible. They document the changes in the urban landscape of Olten and the societal transformation. Rolf Borer Mathis compiles historically significant and artistically ambitious photographs from his father's rich image archive and provides the images with brief texts on their historical or cultural context. This results in a photo book featuring around 150 previously unpublished black-and-white images, which revives many memories and makes a valuable contribution to visual history.
