Product details
Olavsweg - By Bike to Trondheim is an authentic travel diary. The author starts in Mainfranken and cycles 2406 kilometres in two stages of two weeks each to Trondheim in Norway. From Eidsvoll, he follows the old pilgrims' path of the North, the Olavsweg. For each day, the reader learns about the experiences, the kilometres travelled, the place and price of the overnight stay as well as the thoughts of the day. Johannes Reichert has been cycling alone for a fortnight a year for many years. After a heart attack in 2007, these journeys helped him overcome his illness.------ From the banks of the Main River, the author reaches the cathedral city of Fulda via the Rhön. Along the Fulda and Weser rivers, Johannes Reichert cycles into the North German lowlands. After 11 days, he crosses the Danish border. Via Tønder, Esbjerg, Brande, Viborg and Rebild, Reichert reaches Frederikshavn after a total of 16 eventful days. From here, a ferry takes him to Gothenburg in Sweden, the destination for 2017. One year later, in June 2018, Reichert continues this journey from Gothenburg. Via Stenungsund, Munkedal and Halden, he meets the official Olav Trail in Eidsvoll. He now follows this via Hamar, Lillehammer, Ringebu, Otta, Dombås, Hjerkinn, Oppdal and Orkanger to the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim. ------ This travel diary aims to take the reader on an eventful cycling tour, but also to show them the challenges that solo travellers have to overcome. Helpful people, wonderful landscapes and historic places will make you want to set off on your own. If you are not expecting a detailed travel guide, but are interested in the daily experiences of a cycling tour to Norway, you should pick up this book. Such an adventure can also encourage all those who, like the author, are looking for physical challenges again after a serious illness. Much is still doable, you just have to dare.
